day 21: i have so much love for this.

032This is a cardigan my nan knitted for me and I have so much love for it. Its the warmest and comfiest thing I own and I wear it with absolutely everything. Over my school uniform, my pj’s, dresses, jeans/t-shirts, leggings, skirts, you name it I wear with it. It’s oversized and has specks of a multitude of colours and probably could do with a wash.  But who cares. I. LOVE. IT.

day 19: superhero seen on CCTV buying milk from Co-op

Well’s its Wed-nes-day. My favourite. And I had a crisis this morning. WE RAN OUT OF MILK. So I’m there (feeling quite chirpy considering I got to bed at ten to twelve last night), turn the kettle on, said “morning” to my mum, grabbed my favourite cup, popped in a tea bag, a LOT of sugar, poured in the boiling water, look for the milk and then mum suddenly decides to tell me “oh there’s no milk”. And I turn round and there’s the evidence to prove it. A 4 Pinter semi-skinned bottle of milk. EMPTY. Not a drop left. So, I’m like a quivering wreck on the floor, crying out “Who would be so cruel to deprive a girl of milk! I. NEED. TEA!” (by this point, I’m pulling my hair out, laying face down kicking and screaming (think 3 year old child having tantrum ( then think of a louder, larger 16 year old girl doing the same ( yep, you got it)))).LOL jokes. I just said “Ok” and had orange juice instead. But I thought that the first version was more dramatic and if you lived in Hollywood you would react like that, or if you had been admitted to a psychiatric hospital. So anyway we made a quick stop at Co-op and I ran in (I swear if you looked at the CCTV in slow motion I would look like a superhero coming in to save the day ( NOTHING WOULD STAND IN THE WAY OF ME GETTING MY MILK! )), not bothering to get a receipt, we rushed home and once again, I grabbed my cup, my teabag, sugar, spoon etc. etc. etc. and I made that cup of tea.

And my god what a cup of tea it was.

January Blues :(

January is the worst month of the entire year. I hear this being said every year by people but never really understood why January was so depressing but this year I have most definitely joined the group of fed-up-of-winter-summer-craving Brits. Its such a horrid time of year when all your wages have gone towards Christmas presents for other people and the sun just doesn't want to show its face. England is sooooo cold at the moment and its not the exciting kind of cold where its snowing and everything feels Christmassy its the freezing-at-the-bus-stop-at-8-in-the-morning kind of cold.

Anyway rant over, I’m looking forward to February, a week off at half term which will consist of lots of cinema and shopping trips with my girls <3

I am totally loving this week’s UK number 1 as it is none other than my favourite song of the moment, Grenade by Bruno Mars.  I first heard this song in early November before the music video was released and fell in love with it. I really liked his first single Just The Way You Are as well but, as with many other songs that get played constantly on the radio, I got a bit bored with it. The music video for Grenade is absolutely brilliant and just makes me love the song even more (if that's even possible). I like how it has a strong meaning and the lyrics tell a story. I am definitely going to be buying his album this weekend as I also like the sound of some of his other songs including The Other Side featuring Cee Lo Green and B.o.B. I am really impressed with how good his song writing is as he has also written some other little chart toppers and hits including Billionaire (Travie McCoy), Wavin’ Flag (K’naan), Nothing On You (B.o.B), Forget You (Cee Lo Green) and Right Round (Flo-Rida.) I also think he has quite a unique voice and sound to his music which is fairly different to everything else that is around at the moment.

I was really pleased when I heard this announced by Chris Moyles on Monday morning as the UK’s number 1 as I was expecting it to be Jessie J’s Do It Like a Dude which I am not a big fan of and unfortunately the lyrics are very catchy :/ So I was quite surprised that this was number 2 as it had been on the radio non stop and I hadn't heard Grenade on it very much. I think Adele might make the top spot on Sunday with her new single Rolling In The Deep, its an absolute amazing comeback and I am excited to hear her new album as well.. .as you can tell I LOVE music!

I'm so glad Wednesday is over, only 2 more days of school until the weekend :D

Love & Hugs.. .

day 18: men are from mars, women are from venus

006

I’m sorry, but how inviting does my bed look? I have so much homework to do tonight its un real. Really depressing me. All I want to do is curl up in bed until mother nature decides it’s officially summer. Things that have made my tuesday are; going round my nan and gdad’s after school for tea and CAKE (with icing and hundreds and thousands ( WIN! )), went to go pay my wages in to the bank and ended up with more money than I had hoped for, chicken nuggets and chips for tea ( yeah, I know I’m like 16 not 6 but they taste so good and processed  (like McDonald's in your very own home)), and seeing the new Gossip Girl promo. I am so easily pleased.

also… been reading this book I picked up from my local charity shop, you may have heard of it “Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus” by John Gray and after what has been a hot topic for me, Em &co. , it felt like fate that I should buy it. The only thing I have learnt so far is that when men say anything, they mean the exact opposite and have similar properties to elastic bands…? Well, I will keep reading and see what else I get out of it and report back, now I have to do my homework (“moans, groans and has a little bit of a bitch fit on bedroom floor”) .

day 17: i hate mondays.

I really hate mondays, they are full of disappointment, far to early mornings, and the realisation  you have in fact 4 more gruelling days of school left before the weekend embraces us again. Making my Monday bearable was a hard task but I managed to do it, by drinking lots of tea, scoffing lots of leftover birthday cake (and I actually mean shoving the cake into my mouth and eating a piece in less then 2 bites ( I swear. (if you were my friend you would understand this as normal behaviour))), listening to my favourite songs of the moment “Hello” by Martin Solveig & Dragonette and “Someone like you” by ADELE and looking at old holiday snaps.

Mini haul.

I didn't do much sale shopping this year as it takes so much energy to fight my way through the crowds and 95% of the time i never find anything, although I did go for a mini shopping trip with G at the beginning of new year. I find the shops a bit annoying at this time of year as its mid-season there is quite a lot of sale racks still out but the new collections aren’t quite in. Saying that I still managed to buy a few things so here are some of my purchases:
1. Body Shop Passion Fruit Body Butter - £6 SALE (down from £12.50 = bargain!) DSC00911I absolutely love the body butters from the Body Shop and have previously tried both the coconut and the shea ones before which I love. Neither of these were in the sale unfortunately but I have also wanted to try a fruity one for a while so as it was only out of Blueberry, Papaya and Passion Fruit and after many tester tries G and I both went with the Passion fruit. It smells amazing and is really moisturising, although I regard fruity smells with summer I will no doubt be using it very soon.
2. Horseshoe Earrings - £1.50 SALE (down from £5 in the Accessorize 70% off sale) DSC00906I really like these stud earrings as I think they are small and understated but still pretty. I do wear a lot larger stud earrings to school but these will be a nice change and were an absolute bargain. I have worn these nearly everyday for school since we’ve been back as they are so cute <3
3. Leopard print scarf - £6.99 H&M DSC00915I have wanted an animal print scarf for a while now and since I have a slight obsession with leopard print at the moment, when I saw this I had to get it! I liked that it is a classic scarf shape which is a lot easier to wear than the neckerchief styles out at the moment (although I think it’s a personal preference).
4. Rings - £3.99 each H&M DSC00909In the summer I went through a bracelet phase and this winter it has been chunky rings. I found both these rings in the Divided jewellery section in H&M where I often find hidden gems. The HUGE red stone style ring has an adjustable band and only comes in one size which is useful as I think I may change which finger to wear it on. I have a pair of owl earrings so when I found this owl ring I got it. I don’t have a strange obsession with owls, I just think it’s a unique piece of jewellery and the ring has a sort of vintage look to it.

day 13: “so it’s not like the movies?”

Just past midweek! Whey! This week has been so long and boring. Feeling very proud of myself as managing to keep on top of all my homework since the start of term, which is so unlike me. Normally I manage to keep it up for the first 2 days then I fail. But oh no not in 2011. I feel like such a geek, I just ordered 3 books off Amazon and this has filled me with joy. I am a huge bookworm. I am trying to read more intellectual books to help with my english exams (the fact that I used spell check to spell Intellectual is proof that I should read more intellectual books, ( is that ironic? (I wouldn’t know, I don’t read enough intellectual books to know what irony is( having just typed intellectual  5 times I know now how to spell it ( WIN )))). Ok, rambling over. Though when I have finished reading them I will give you a quick a review. ( of the books, that is).

026

Just a little shot of my cat, Bella, who I love dearly. I swear after the conversation I had with my friends today I am a shoe in for becoming the next cat lady. The idea has really freaked me out and WILL NOT happen. I may want to own 6 cats when I finally live on my own but… GOD, I AM THE CAT LADY!

Moving on from that disturbing thought… Season Three of 90210 has started on E4! Though I am far more excited for the revival of Gossip Girl Season 4 where we will found out what happened over the Christmas Break…

Question: Lonely Boy & B ?

Answer: WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK!?!?

Outfit of the Day: i heart denim.

044 043 047

I do like my denim quite a lot. Its just so easy to wear and goes with everything. Something I am on the look out for is a pair of Levi’s highwaisted cut off shorts in a light denim. They would make my summer complete.

Outfit of the Day: “this might look cool”

050 049

I don’t really know what to say about this ensemble. I just kind of pulled the items out of my wardrobe and thought “this might look cool”. I am a huge lover of clogs, they just sent me in to a fashion fairy daydream. These are also my favourite jeans, they are so comfy but unfortunately they have a massive hole on the back near the bum area. At first I thought cool and what of it but now its getting bigger and bigger and knickers can be seen. Not the look I intended at all. To finish the look I just added some red lippie and hoped for the best. So “this might look cool” or it might just look hideous. Let’s just say you can’t make a fashionista without breaking a few eggs (or something along those lines). Anyway Happy Sunday!

Movie of the Month: Love & Other Drugs.

Christmas is officially over and we’re back to school which means lots of coursework and essays to write. But in the holidays G and I managed to fit in a trip to the cinema to see Love & Other Drugs (after a quick dash around the shops). We both wanted to see this as it has been advertised everywhere and after reading the reviews and interviews in Glamour we decided to go and see it. Although, I wait ages for a good film to come on at the cinema and then suddenly there are 3 that I go to see in a matter of weeks. I went to see the new Harry Potter with my family a couple of weeks ago (completely loved it), Little Fockers last week which was very funny (I am a big fan of the previous 2 films and of Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson) and then Love & Other Drugs.

I must admit before going to see the film I had seen the trailer and it looked to be another average rom-com which I quite like but it actually was a lot more than that and exceeded my expectations.  I have liked Anne Hathaway’s previous films (Princess Diaries, Ella Enchanted, The Devil Wears Prada, Valentine’s Day and Bride Wars.) I think she has a certain likeability about her as she isn’t the typical skinny Hollywood actress and seems rather normal which I think people can relate to. Although I haven’t seen many films with Jake Gyllenhaal (only The Day after tomorrow but I really want to see Brokeback Mountain) I thought he looked really cute and had never really heard much bad reviews about his acting. I actually thought that both of them played their parts very well and found that actually Jake Gyllenhaal was very funny. So the plot of the story was based on a non-fiction book called Hard Sell: The Evolution of a Viagra Salesman which I didn’t realise before seeing the film. It was set in America in 1997 and is basically about Jamie (Gyllenhaal) a womanizing salesman who gets a job as a drug representative trying to persuade a top doctor to prescribe his product to his patients. Jamie then meets Maggie (Hathaway), who suffers from an early stage of Parkinson’s disease, at a GP appointment where Jamie pretends to be an intern.

I won’t say anymore as it will give away all the good bits away! I really enjoyed it as it seemed to have a bit of every genre in; comedy, romance and drama. Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal had good chemistry and the storyline was quite believable. There was quite a lot of nudity and sex scenes throughout the movie but that is kind of what the plot was based around. I also thought that the music throughout the movie went really well and added effect to the acting. Although it has got mixed reviews I would definitely recommend it and overall I really liked it, it’s different, fun, enjoyable and just an overall good movie and I would give it about 3.5/4 out of 5.
Love & Other Drugs is a UK 15.

Outfit of the Day.

I love this jumper so much. It was a bit of splurge from Topshop, but well worth every penny. And it is oh so comfy.

January Issue: g’s tunes.

Recently I have been listening to so much music having received a lot of albums for Christmas, and from borrowing a lot and I am loving Lissie’s album “Catching A Tiger” and feel its getting me in the mood for Spring, which is never a bad thing. Especially loving “Cuckoo” (lots of happy vibes from this), “In Sleep”, “Everywhere I Go”, “Worried About” and “Little Lovin’”.

My present to my Dad this Christmas was “The Beginning” by The Black Eyed Peas and it has become a family favourite. We just can’t resist jammin’ to the peas. On New Years we were all there jumping up down with our hands in the air to “The Time (Dirty Bit)” raving in to 2011. TRUE STORY.

Another album I have grown particularly fond of is “Loud”, by Rihanna, it’s definitely a guilty pleasure and gets me in the mood for a bit of dancing in front of my dressing table mirror. It also reminds me of my holidays in the Caribbean, strangely, and the songs I keep on repeat are “What’s My Name?”, “Cheers (Drink To That)” and of course “Only Girl (In The World)”.

I will be back in February with another “g’s tunes” but in the mean time I will probably hit you with songs I am particularly liking in my posts as and when.

oh hey.

Welcome to our the blog “mode et moi”!
I’m Grace and I am a shopaholic. Glad we got that out in the open internet world of cyberspace. So yeah, I like my shops and I am a bit of a magazine addict, I just cleared some of the stuff out in my room and I managed to find 115. Including 31 Glamour’s (the 31st being the French version (oh la la!)). I do plan to throw some out. Soon.

052 (2)

Just a little shot of me of from New Year’s Eve…

but all the fun is over and back to school, working harder than ever. What would be really nice right now is a bit of sun. Craving a tan right now, in England the sky is covered in clouds, ALOT. Deciding where to go for the summer holidays at the moment, but really can’t decide, so suggestions, please? I am also not enjoying the fact that the shops are all messed up with sales and new Spring collections, my fashion radar is so confused right now. Hopefully after reading this months Vogue and Glamour everything will become clear.

Before I forget I will introduce my amazing friend Emily who is also the writer of “mode et moi” and makes up the second half of “a fashionista” I am sure you will love her just as much as I do.

163622_151110191606787_100001234218230_284896_7020258_n[1] Finally I can say thank god it’s Friday, the weekend is officially here…

&I hope you enjoyed my first rant, as much as I enjoyed writing it.
